GBC certifies companies with 1-5 employees, while The Institute for Green Business Certification (IGBC), the parent company, certifies companies with 6 or more employees. GBC's sustainable program defines key areas and specific guidelines in categories such as recycling, water conservation, energy conservation, waste reduction and "environmentally friendly" purchasing. The US Green Business Certification does not sell or endorse products, or charge for literature.
IGBC parent company of GBC is believed to be the oldest organizations of its kind to certify business environmental practices.
